Synopsis
Nonton Film Ping-Pong: The Triumph – “Ping Pong: The Triumph” is a must-watch for table tennis/ping pong fans and those who love true stories about sports triumphing over obstacles. Even if viewers don’t know before watching the film that it’s based on a true story, the title and marketing material reveal that the team in the middle of the story will win the championship. This is a well-formulated and predictable underdog sports story, but there are enough thrilling table tennis/ping pong competition scenes to keep viewers interested. These action scenes are well-filmed, although the screenplay is somewhat bland. Directed by Deng Chao and Yu Baimei, “Ping Pong: The Triumph” dramatically retells the story of China’s national men’s table tennis team from consecutive defeats in 1990 and 1991 to world champions in 1995. The film takes place in various parts of Asia and Europe. Six people are credited with writing the screenplay: Li Feng, Liu Pei, Meng Hui, Yu Baimei, Zhang Yan, and Zhong Wei. That’s a lot of competent but not too innovative screenplay writers. The film begins in 1989 in Italy, where table tennis coach Minjia Dai (played by Deng Chao) is robbed on the street by a young boy and his adult accomplice. (The character of Minjia Dai is based on the real-life coach Cai Zhenhua.) This is another pressure in Dai’s life at the time. His wife Ying Wang (played by Sun Li) is eight months pregnant at their home in China, and he desperately wants to be with her. Dai recently renewed his contract to work as a table tennis coach in Italy for $50,000 a year. He’s offered the chance to return to China to coach the men’s national table tennis team, but he refuses. Dai has painful memories of playing table tennis in China. He used to be a professional table tennis player in China, but he retired from playing at the age of 24, after he missed the chance to compete in the Olympics. The China team won gold medals for the Table Tennis World Championships in 1981, 1983, 1985, and 1987. China has won more gold medals in the Table Tennis World Championships than any other country. In 1989, the team won a silver medal. However, in 1990, the team suffered a worrying losing streak with little hope of winning a gold medal. China wants a coach who can turn things around and restore China’s status as the world champion gold medalist for this team. Don’t forget to always check out our latest films on REBAHIN.
